Nice to Meet You! I’m Rubin! ✌🏽😁

At the time of writing this I am 28 years old without a clue in the world of what I’m doing in life but as they say “Fake it ‘til you make it!" and boy am I faking it! I was born and raised in Chesterfield, Virginia and only recently moved to Farmville, Virginia about 5 years ago. I currently work in Higher Ed as a Network Administrator for Longwood University. It’s been a dream of mine to work in the networking field since my Junior year of High School.

Much of this blog/newsletter will be related to tech as that’s my bread and butter, but it will also majorly be about life, struggles, advice, and growing up with me over the years. Almost like a digital time capsule.

I started my journey in content creation, and curation, from the simple mindset of not feeling good enough. Over the past year or so I’ve often wrestled with imposter syndrome, as I’m sure most of you have as well at one point in your lives.

At the end of the year 2023, I applied to a tech advocacy program with Cisco called the “Cisco Insider Champions”. During the application process, I was asked how many followers I had on various social media platforms and my plans for how I would advocate and inspire people on all things tech. Me being me, imposter syndrome immediately set in. I felt unqualified. I felt not good enough. I felt there was no way I’d be chosen.

So I set out on a journey to prove to myself that I could be an advocate with, or without, being accepted into the program. The jury is still out on this by the way. No decisions have been made as of yet for the 2024 Champions group members. However, in the meantime, I’ve worked hard to make some major accomplishments over on my LinkedIn profile, expand my knowledge of social media best practices, learn basic graphic design, and now I am creating this website and newsletter.

I have no idea where this journey will take me and I have no idea what I’ll come up with to do next. Honestly, I have no idea what I’ll do as soon as I finish writing this article, but that’s the fun part. The biggest benefit from all of this is meeting and helping all of you along the way.

We are all capable of so much in life. If I gave in to that imposter syndrome none of this would exist. People always say “The only thing stopping you, is you” and it is so true. It’s easy to make excuses and stay where you are because it feels comfortable. It feels like home. But just think about where you could be in life if you just did that thing and took that chance.

Do that thing.

Leap.

See where you land.

Live a little.

Most importantly, enjoy the journey!

I love you all and want to thank you for being here 🙏🏽
