I Don't Want To Work at Lowe's!

The motivation behind personal growth

First things first, I do not currently work at Lowe’s nor do I have anything against Lowe’s. Quite the opposite actually. The title of this article alludes to the motivation and driving force behind me creating my personal brand and something I can call my own.

It’s a challenging economy out there and times are hard financially for many of us right now. Myself included. I have a well-paying full-time job but, with the bills and loans I have mixed with the effects of inflation, money is tight.

Many people I know have second jobs to live the life they used to enjoy daily and many have second jobs simply to make ends meet. I had a second job for about a year not long ago before being laid off. The extra money was nice but the issue with second jobs is they take away the time you have to be at home with loved ones or out doing other things you enjoy.

For me personally, if I had to, my current second job of choice would be to work at Lowe’s. It’s one of the cooler companies to work for in the area as an alternative to the fast food industry or clothing stores. Also, I’d get an awesome little discount to use on all the tools I need and home improvement projects I have going on.

However, I don’t really WANT to work there. I don’t want to clock out of my 8 to 5 and head to another job for an additional three or four hours for basically minimum wage. I don’t want to have to do all the paperwork and onboarding for a temporary role. And I don’t want to give up weekends and be an inconvenience to friends and family when trying to plan fun events and holidays.

So, how can I get the best of both worlds? How can I make some extra money and also maintain my life and freedom to decide how I spend my time outside of work? By creating something of value and inviting others to take part in it.

I’m often asked what I plan to do with all the efforts I’m putting into creating content for LinkedIn, publishing articles and newsletters, and helping people around the world. Honestly, until recently I had no idea. I just wanted to provide value and help people and hopefully, one day, be able to turn it into some form of a business or revenue.

One lesson I’ve learned from this journey is that I am capable and I have value. All the major companies of the world started somewhere and started with nothing. They had to stay patient and build their business day by day from the ground up over the years.

Today I am committing to doing just that. Instead of wasting my extra hours working at Lowe’s, I will build something of significance. In five years time I will have the income I desire and will no longer “want” to work at Lowe’s.
